Jamiroquai frontman Jay Kay’s former Aston Martin is up for sale – with a price tag that’s practically insane.

The extremely rare Aston Martin V8 Vantage X Pack (one of just 95 ever built) is expected to fetch up to £400,000 when it goes up for auction this month.

The V8 Vantage appeared in the famous 1987 James Bond film, The Living Daylights, where it escaped across a frozen lake inside a wooden cabin.

And while Jay Kay’s 1990 Vantage doesn’t have deployable skis, missiles or a jet engine, it does have a 5.3-liter V8 engine that produces 432 horsepower, a black leather interior with walnut trim, air conditioning and power windows. It also has 37,000 miles on the clock.

The car was part of the Cosmic Girl singer’s fleet of more than 100 luxury vehicles, including Ferraris, Aston Martins, Mercedes and Porsches.

This rare British coupe is only one of two right-hand drive examples produced in Litchfield Black paint, which only adds to its collector value.

With just 37,594 miles on the clock, it has averaged just over 1,100 miles per year since it rolled off the production line.

The car will be auctioned by Buckinghamshire-based Historics Auctioneers on September 14.

Auction specialist James Good said: ‘This is one of the greats of British motoring and undoubtedly one of the finest Aston Martins ever built – rare as a hen’s teeth, brutal in appearance and performance to match.

‘This particular example has a great ownership pedigree, having been owned by one of the UK’s most prolific private collectors and would definitely grace the garage of any avid Aston Martin collector or indeed be driven in anger by anyone who dares.’

Jay Kay, 54, whose disco-inspired band Jamiroquai had several chart-topping hits in the 1990s and 2000s, owned the car for many years before selling it to a private collector last year.

Describing his lifelong love of cars, Jay Kay said: “Before I could walk, I was playing with cars. As a kid, I spent a lot of time travelling with my mother (jazz singer Karen Kay) to concerts and back then, in the early 1970s, the variety of cars you could see and the differences between them were much easier to spot than they are today.

“Nowadays, I think they’re a bit bland. I come from a time when fantastic cars were built that were more inspiring and personal than today’s cars.”

This comes after a rare Ferrari once owned by Jamiroquai frontman Jay Kay was put up for sale in July with just 3,000 miles on the clock.

The Ferrari 599 GTO, of which only 599 units were built, was expected to fetch a price of around £650,000.
