A Virginia mother who had been on the run for six months with four of her children after being abducted “from their father” in the middle of a custody battle has been arrested at a gas station in Indiana.

Melody Bannister, 34, was arrested Wednesday at 2.40 am at a gas station in Plainfield, Indiana.

The four children she was accused of abducting their father – 13-year-old Genevieve, 12-year-old Janelle, 11-year-old Vivienne and 7-year-old Peter – were with her and unharmed.

In June last year, Bannister made unfounded allegations that the children were being abused by an unknown family member.

The Virginia authorities gave custody of the children to their father.

Bannister fought against it and brought it to the Alabama court to intervene in the hope that they would give her custody.

She was ordered to return the children to their father in Virginia, but fled instead.

Since then there have been sightings of her and the children in eight states; Alabama, South Carolina, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Kentucky, Colorado, North Carolina, and Texas.

It is unclear what the police led to them at the gas station.

Authorities issued a warning in December last year asking for help from the public to find them.

None of the children were injured.

She was booked on a felony allegation of violation of a court order, four felony allegations of kidnapping and a count of filing a fake police report.
