As the fourth and final season of Succession draws to a close, a viral theory about the importance of an iPhone in the HBO series has set the internet on fire.
TikTok user @tweet It went viral this month after it was pointed out that Kendall (Jeremy Strong), Roman (Kieran Culkin) and cousin Greg (Nicholas Brown) all own iPhones, while Tom (Matthew McFadden) uses a Samsung Galaxy smartphone.
Not everyone who uses Apple phones is (except) Tom. IYKYK, he captioned the video, which shows pictures of the characters on their cell phones in the third episode of the season, Connor’s Wedding.
The creator was referring to the claim that Apple doesn’t allow bad guys to use iPhones – hinting that this small detail is a sign that Tom is one of the bad guys.
Succession fans think they can tell who the real villains are in the fourth and final season of the HBO show based on who uses and doesn’t use an iPhone.

Apple allegedly doesn’t let bad guys use iPhones, and many vulture viewers noticed in the third episode of the season that Tom (Matthew Macfadyen) has a Samsung Galaxy
“Apple, they let you use iPhones in movies, but — and this is very pivotal if you’re watching a mystery movie — bad guys can’t put iPhones on camera,” said Rian Johnson, director of Knives Out. Vanity Fair in 2020.
TikTok user @tweet He elaborated on the iPhone theory in his video that was posted after the episode aired.
Apple has some rules when it comes to who can use their phones for shows. First and foremost, they can never have a case. Secondly, he can never be with the villain. The villain can never use the iPhone, which is really interesting when it comes to succession.
Because, as we saw in this last episode, which was filled with phone calls, not one character had an iPhone, and that character was Tom. So what does this mean?
“It can’t mean anything,” he continued. It could just be choosing a production design to give it a different phone. not important. But, if you follow Apple’s rule, it can mean a lot.
He noted that Tom has joined the “old guard” rather than Roy’s children, including his estranged wife, Chief (Sarah Snook), who notably also owns an iPhone.

TikTokhunterdeutsch shared his thoughts on the iPhone succession theory in a video posted after the episode aired, suggesting that it could be a red herring.

TikTokiwannabeonline user also went viral this month after pointing out that Tom has an Anroid, not an iPhone
“This puts him in clear opposition to succeeding or doing something worse moving forward and making him the true villain of this show,” he said. I am so excited to see this. I don’t know if this is true, but it’s a solid theory going forward.
Fans have had a mixed reaction to the theory, with some agreeing with it and others insisting it’s just a red herring for eagle-eyed viewers.
I just noticed Tom’s phone. And I was really shocked that children were born to them, someone answered.
Another person commented, “Tom is in his wicked age and he has every right.”
‘I think this might be misleading.’ They know people know Apple’s rules so they give Tom a device other than an iPhone to get rid of people,” said another user.
What’s interesting about this theory is that Kendall and Roman have used Android devices in previous seasons before switching to iPhones.
As some fans have pointed out, their evil father, Logan (Brian Cox), also used an Android before his death. So does Jerry (J. Smith-Cameron).

As many of us know, a few years ago Rian Johnson spilled the beans and said that Apple wouldn’t let bad guys have iPhones on camera. I am an avid observer of succession, so, naturally, I had to apply this theory.
“Logan Roy, no iPhone. Tom, no iPhone. Roman, no iPhone. Jerry, no iPhone. But you want to know who has an iPhone? Kendall and Shiv. Kendall and Shiv both have iPhones.”
In a follow-up video, she points out that Cousin Gregg also has an iPhone to the delight of his fans who are rooting for him.
If the iPhone theory is correct, Roy and Greg’s kids are rooting for this season, while Tom and Gerri are slated to be the villains.
