Residents of a small town are furious over hundreds of donated items, including an office chair, dumped and scattered outside a local Vinnies store.

Clothes, tubs and boxes were among the items abandoned outside the St Vincent’s De Paul center in Mount Barker, in Adelaide’s south-east, on Sunday night.

Local resident Fiona Watson, who visited the center with her daughter to drop off some items after work, described the sight of donated items in front of the main charity as “chaotic”.

“It looked like someone had gone through it and thrown it everywhere,” Watson said. nine news.

Dozens of bags full of clothes lined the walkway as items overflowed into the mall’s outdoor parking lot.

Boxes, tubs and even an office chair and ironing board were among the discarded items that fell in front of the charity, leaving a huge mess.

Watson, who does not work at Vinnies, spent more than an hour cleaning the area and said the place is often left a mess.

‘All the time, it’s on a regular basis. “I drive by there and I see it like this from the roads and you see people walking by there at night,” she said.

Narelle Brine, of Vinnies Mount Barker, thanked Ms Watson for cleaning up the mess.

He said people often throw away items they no longer need, but no one else can reuse the donated items.

She says staff face the mammoth task of cleaning up the mess every day.

“They come and some mornings we probably spend an hour cleaning,” he said.

Piles of discarded items left outside the window pose a major problem when wet weather hits, as items can often be ruined.

The big blue containers of Vinnies were removed from the shop window two weeks ago.

However, smaller bins have been placed at the front of the store, for those who want to drop them off quickly during opening hours.

A spokesperson for St Vincent’s De Paul told Daily Mail Australia that donors are encouraged to drop off their items inside their local Vinnies store when they are open if there are no bins outside.

Vinnies will not accept items that cannot be reused, including damaged computers, mattresses and furniture.

Daily Mail has contacted Vinnies South Australia for comment.
