Vincent Kompany sends emotional farewell message to Burnley fans as new Bayern Munich boss says it was a ‘privilege’ and an ‘honour’ to manage the club

Vincent Kompany has published a farewell message to Burnley fans on social media after leaving the club to become the new coach of Bayern Munich.

Kompany was expected to remain with the Clarets following their relegation from the Premier League, but the German giants announced the shock appointment last week.

Burnley did not stand in the way of that opportunity and Bayern gave the club acceptable compensation.

Kompany took to Instagram to share a video message with fans on Tuesday.

‘Start with a thank you message, of course. I was very lucky; I was surrounded by hard-working people, by players who gave everything,’ he stated.

‘And I felt privileged and honored to be welcomed and to be part of such a good environment, so thank you for that.

‘The best way to describe how I experienced it is that I think I gave it all back.

(The) best memory I had was beating Blackburn at home 3-0 and then beating them at home and winning the league there; That was good. “I enjoyed every moment at the club, it has been a very important part of my life.”

Alongside the clip, the former Manchester City defender wrote: “I am very grateful to have been part of the Burnley FC family for 2 seasons.

“I am honored by the role I was given in the rich history of this beautiful club and am very proud of what we have achieved together, through good days and bad.

‘To everyone at the club, from the owners to the players and staff: you have been incredible. And most importantly to all the fans and the entire Burnley community: I can’t thank you enough for always being there, through the good times and the bad.

‘You are the solid rock on which this club is built. Burnley will always be an important part of my story. Forever in my heart, Vincent.
