Channel Seven’s heavily promoted Roast of John Cleese special was completely destroyed in viewers on Tuesday night by Nine’s Married At First Sight.
According to the industry website TV Blackbox1,489,000 tuned in to MAFS, while the John Cleese special attracted just 458,000 viewers.
It comes after Seven heavily promoted the roast and brought in several Australian stars to audition for Cleese, including Tom Gleeson, Joel Creasey and Rhonda Burchmore.
Viewers were much more interested in watching MAFS couple Andrea Thompson and Richard Sauerman feud on screen during a very heated moment on the reality show.
Andreas, 51, first time with the motivational speaker, 62, took place earlier in the episode when they tried to discuss how to save their fractured relationship.

Meanwhile, furious viewers slammed the John Cleese comedy special.
‘We Australians don’t do comedy well. The John Cleese roast was shocking,’ gushed one outraged fan.
“It’s important when you’re roasting John Cleese on national TV that you actually roast the receiver,” another person added.

‘I can’t believe I streamed this,’ chimed in a third, and a fourth added: ‘This always sounded dodgy.’
The special was filmed last year in front of an audience at Melbourne’s Crown Casino, and was hosted by Shane Jacobson.
Cleese, 84, was treated to a barrage of good-natured insults courtesy of a string of celebrity guests.

Meanwhile, the heated MAFS episode saw No. 9 groom Richard unable to take his wife Andrea’s criticism on board and learn from his past mistakes in their union.
‘Richie, you just keep choosing not to listen. I understand you’re frustrated,’ she tried to explain.
In a very aggressive and angry display, Andrea slammed her notebook hard against the table and shouted: ‘You’ve just done it again! You’re driving me crazy!’
Despite the visible overload of emotion, Richard did not give up, adding: ‘You blame me for things in your past relationships. You will not own that. I’m not that guy’.
