Palestinians in East Jerusalem closed their shops and were denied entry to the vital Damascus Gate area to make way for Israeli settlers. A shy demonstration by Israelis also took place on a street in Jerusalem, calling for the city to be opened and an end to racism in it. In the Gaza Strip, thousands of Palestinians gathered at the border, most of them carrying Palestinian flags, while the Israeli forces fired tear gas at anyone who approached the border fence.
