The indigenous people of the Brazilian capital marched to protest against a bill that would reduce the size of their lands and allow the deforestation of more forests, which they say opens the way for “genocide” against them. They demanded that President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva suspend it.

The demonstrators painted their bodies, wore traditional feather crowns on their heads, raised bows and arrows, beat drums and chanted protest songs.
Brazil has 764 indigenous territories, but a third of them are still undemarcated, according to figures released by the National Institute of Indigenous Peoples.
