According to a press statement, the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Tampa unloaded about 5,500 pounds of cocaine, worth an estimated $ 94.6 million, in Miami.

The nondescript ship was intercepted off the coast of Punta Gallinas, Colombia, on April 9, after a maritime patrol flight spotted the boat.

The video of the incident showed members of the Coast Guard moving alongside the ship during the siege.

Authorities said three suspects, who had not been injured, had been taken into custody. Once on board the Coast Guard cutter, all suspects were given food, water, shelter and basic medical care.

Coast guards discovered 87 bales of cocaine before destroying the ship “as a threat to shipping.”

Footage from the incident showed members of the Coast Guard carrying the bales of cocaine and piling them ashore after the bust.

“This event is the perfect example of many key partners joining our efforts to counter transnational criminal organizations that seek to exploit the maritime environment,” said Lieutenant Commander Jason Neiman, Public Affairs Officer of the Seventh District.

‘By strengthening partnerships, we counter threats together.’

It comes just a month after Coast Guard crews said they unloaded thousands of pounds of cocaine and cannabis off the coast of San Diego.

The estimated $ 126.7 million worth of drugs was taken by authorities from 10 suspected drug trafficking ships intercepted between January and February.

Those drugs weighed about 7,500 pounds.
