A family of enormous killer whales were captured on dystopian video after being spotted roaming the waters of Canada.
False Creek Ferries, a local ferry operator in the area, was traveling from the west side of downtown Vancouver to Kitsilano Beach when passengers were surprised by four surprise visitors: a 26-year-old orca mother and her three calves within just 3 meters of distance. from the boat.
“It was quite surreal,” said Jack Hemsworth, the ferry captain CityNews. “It was pretty crazy to see how big they really are because they were bigger than the boat.”
The video shared by the ferry company on social media captured the passing orcas – also known as Bigg’s killer whales – as they quietly floated through the harbor past a row of tall buildings that served as the perfect backdrop.
Amazed passengers can be heard in the background in absolute awe of the stunning spectacle – ‘wow’ every time the capsule resurfaces.
“They’re so cute,” one passenger can be heard saying. “They’re my favorite animal.”
Hemsworth set his boat in neutral just offshore of the famous Sunset Beach so he and the others could gently cruise past the majestic creatures – which can grow up to 26 feet long – and absorb the rare moment in its entirety.
It’s not common for people to see them in harbor and even more unusual for them to be so visible as to be captured on film – but the specific breed of whales are stealth hunters and were most likely looking for seals to fill their stomachs.
The mother of the family, known to experts as T35A, is one of more than 300 killer whales officially cataloged by Canada’s Department of Fisheries and Oceans.
