This is when a man was injured by a black bear while trying to defend his dog that was being chased by the deadly predator.

The animal ran into Walter Hickox’s home in Florida’s Daytona Beach on Wednesday evening.

Security camera footage showed Hickox facing the black bear and pushing the animal through the door into the backyard.

He then grabbed a bench to barricade the door to prevent the bear from returning to the house where his partner Kerry and dogs Pickles, Pepper, both 12, and five-year-old Piper were hiding.”

Speak with WFTV 9Hilkox said, “Not much was going through my mind right now, except what’s going to happen if he gets past me and walks into the house where the rest of my dogs and my wife were.”

He said he now plans to put a door on his porch and keep some bear spray nearby.

Police in Daytona Beach, Central Florida have confirmed it was the second bear attack in the area in the past week.

When he forced the bear outside, Hickox dragged a wooden bench through the open doorway to block the bear's return.

Hickox’ partner Kerry Rubino Hickox said, “He jumped on the porch to attack Pepper. Walt thought it was the neighbor’s dog and went to punch him in the trunk.

“How does a bear get so comfortable with people that he jumps on a porch to attack.”

She also posted photos of Hickox’s injuries – with some stab wounds and slash marks.

A friend suggested that someone may have fed the bear instead — contrary to Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission guidelines.

FWC experts said, “Bears are found all over Florida and sometimes visit neighborhoods. If bears can’t find food, they move on.

‘Feeding bears is illegal. It is dangerous for bears and humans.

“Secure waste, pet food and birdseed.

‘Protect your vest with electric fences. Be aware of your surroundings and walk dogs on a short leash.’
