Surveillance footage reviewed by KMOX Captured A disturbing scene in downtown St. Louis, where an unidentified man was seen dragging an upside-down stroller, with a baby inside. The man eventually let go of the stroller and walked away, leaving it abandoned on the street. Fortunately, educator Steward Stiles, who works at Voices Academy Charter School, was nearby and quickly sprang into action, he said. KMOV.
“As soon as he dropped the stroller, I immediately ran to him, picked up the child, picked up the stroller and called the police.” Stiles saidrecounting the incident. At first, he wasn’t even sure there was a real child inside. “I looked inside the stroller and thought maybe it was a toy, but when the baby started moving, I thought, ‘Oh my God, this is a real child.’”
Amazingly, the baby appeared unharmed, despite being dragged around in the stroller. “Miraculously, the child didn’t have any scratches or bruises, because he was just hanging off the ground,” Stiles said.
Stiles described the baby as being quite young. “He was definitely a newborn baby… I would say he was no more than two months old. His head still needed to be supported,” she said.
According to Stiles, the man was initially seen walking along Tucker Boulevard before returning to Olive Street, where he abandoned the baby and was subsequently arrested by police.
While a spokesperson confirmed that a man was arrested for throwing the stroller and baby into the street, she noted that a full report has not yet been completed and that more details are awaited. Thanks to Stiles’ quick reaction, the child was saved from what could have been a much worse outcome.
