Melbourne’s top-rated radio host has criticized the Liberal Party for failing to use Daniel Andrews’ hardline Covid policies once again.

Melbourne’s prime time radio host Neil Mitchell criticized the Liberal Party for failing to use Daniel Andrews’ hardline policies against him during the state election campaign.

The Radio 3AW presenter criticized opposition leader Matthew Guy on Nine News on Saturday night, criticizing the Coalition for having “avoided the pandemic as a problem” over the last month.

“I think they did,” Mitchell said.

“Liberals avoided it, they thought it was too negative.”

At the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, Melbourne suffered the world’s longest lockdown at 263 days, significantly more severe than Sydney’s 159 days, and Andrews imposed stricter restrictions than other prime ministers.

Mitchell also took aim at both sides for failing to address major issues like health care and debt during the campaign.

Victoria’s ambulance crisis has been in the spotlight in recent months and the state’s net debt is $99.9 billion, well above that of any other Australian state or territory.

Earlier in the evening, Mitchell predicted that Labor will maintain its power in the Victorian parliament despite public anger over its handling of the pandemic.

‘There is no doubt that there is anger out there. I don’t know if it’s enough to change the government, I don’t think there is, but there is no doubt that there is anger towards Daniel Andrews,’ he said.

Andrews Hasn'T Spoken To Mitchell, The Host Of Radio 3Aw'S Highest-Rated Morning Show, In Five Years.

Andrews hasn’t spoken to Mitchell, the host of Radio 3AW’s highest-rated morning show, in five years.

‘Some see him as heroic, some see him as someone who doesn’t fit in.

“One of the things that worries me, if Labor wins easily, is a template for future elections.”

Mitchell has been ranked number one on 3AW’s morning show for most ratings polls for the past three decades, yet Andrews hasn’t spoken to him in over five years.

Polls closed at 6pm AEDT. Labor needs 45 seats to govern in its own right. The Andrews government currently has 55 seats and the Coalition has 27 seats.

The vote count is expected to be slow as more than 1.9 million early votes were cast.
