Vicky was supported at her side by her fiancé Ercan Ramadan, 30, but cast doubt on their upcoming summer wedding after saying she would be forced to stay in hospital “for a while”.
She continued: “I feel a lot better, but I’m completely off my painkillers, so I hope this doesn’t get too chaotic.”
“I woke up on Thursday with a terrible headache, I ignored it and assumed it was because I had had a very long day the day before; anyway, it persisted and turned into a sore throat, razor blade vibrations and I had a fever , aches, pains, joint pain, etc.
‘I tried to get to an emergency doctor’s appointment but we were taken to a terrible accident. A journey that should have taken an hour took six and although the doctor did the best he could over the phone, he had no way of knowing what was best. Twenty-four hours passed and I started to feel unwell, which made everything worse. My throat was so swollen I couldn’t swallow, drink water and painkillers were completely out of the question. It was getting to the point where I physically couldn’t move.’
Vicky continued: ‘I started to feel scared, made another emergency request with my doctor and was referred straight to A&E. After about 36 hours, about 6 bags of fluid, 3 of antibiotics, and an untold amount of pain relief, we’re starting to get to the bottom of things.’
‘They think it’s glandular fever, a huge infection and an abscess in my throat. I didn’t allow myself any recovery time after Covid and I guess it just compromised my immune system – I haven’t allowed myself any downtime this year.
‘I’ve burned the candle at both ends, worked a grueling schedule and ignored all the signs that my body was desperate for a break; I feel exhausted, overwhelmed, I can’t sleep at night because of anxiety, I’m exhausted in the morning, I’ve lost my appetite, I haven’t prioritized my exercise; I haven’t done anything since the half marathon in April, which is very different for me.’
Before concluding: ‘This has been the wake-up call I needed, but I’m angry with myself. I let him get here. I’ll be in the hospital for a while and I think it’s for the best.’
