Everton fans mocked Liverpool supporters who endured a miserable night at Goodison Park by mocking the Reds for slipping up in the Premier League title race.

The shock defeat in the Merseyside derby gives Liverpool a mountain to climb as Jurgen Klopp’s side remain three points behind leaders Arsenal and just one point ahead of Man City, who have a game in hand.

Liverpool’s forwards were ineffective against city rivals Everton, while the visitors’ defense broke down when Jarrad Branthwaite and Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored.

The Reds were unbeaten at their rivals’ home since 2010, when Everton also won by two-nil on that occasion.

It has been happy territory for Liverpool ever since and Toffees fans were keen to make the most of the rare victory over their noisy neighbours.

The home fans rubbed salt into Liverpool’s wounds by emphatically chanting at Klopp and his underperforming players “you lost the league at Goodison Park”.

That claim carries some weight, as Liverpool are now the outside favorites between Arsenal and defending champions Man City to win the English top-flight crown.

Meanwhile, the victory moves Sean Dyche’s team out of the league’s relegation zone and all but confirms their safety in the Premier League for next season.

Reds boss Klopp was realistic about his team’s chances of winning the title this season after the defeat and admitted they are out of the race unless a late “crisis” occurs elsewhere.

“I feel very sorry for the people,” he said. “We never lost here (under Klopp) and it feels really different. I really apologize for that.

“We need a crisis at Manchester City and Arsenal and we need to win football games.

“We’re not sure (of qualifying for) the Champions League either, so we should play better football.” “You can see that we are in a hurry in front of the goal,” he added.
