Borussia Dortmund missed out on the biggest trophy of the season on Saturday, although it was the cup’s comically large size that drew attention rather than prestige.
Newly promoted Bundesliga team Vfl Bochum came out of the game 3-1 in the pre-season game on Saturday, despite German giants Marco Reus and Julian Brandt competing.
With the win, striker Silvere Ganvoula won the Cup of Traditions (Cup of Traditions), an annual three-team tournament organized before the season gets off to a good start.

The newly promoted Bundesliga side defeated giant Borussia Dortmund in the pre-season match
This year, MSV Duisburg, which plays in the German third tier, was to host and participate in the competition.
However, they had to pull out late after three players tested positive for coronavirus, sparking an all-or-nothing clash for the giant cup.
It was a disappointing way to start the 2021-22 season for the favorites, but BVB will focus on more important – albeit much smaller – silverware this season.
Dortmund even played with Marco Reus but couldn’t get the best of the underdogs
Three goals in the first half were enough for Bochum to take home the giant silverware on Saturday
New Dortmund boss Marco Rose started a first-team line-up with young talents such as Gio Reyna and new signing Gregor Kobel on his debut, before sending an XI of under-23 players for the second half.
Soma Novothny, Silvere Ganvoula and Herbert Bockhorn scored quick goals in the first half to take the lead, before Marco Pasalic fired for consolation in the 83rd minute.
Dortmund will start their season in August against Wehen Wiesbaden in the DFB Pokal, when they appear to have Erling Haaland at their disposal as the club continues to fend off Chelsea’s interest.
