Beloved series producer and former ABC children’s television director Tim Brooke-Hunt died on Monday aged 76 after a long illness.
An obituary in The Sydney Morning Herald confirmed the veteran of the show He died at home, surrounded by friends and family.
Tim was born in England and worked as an accountant before moving to Australia in the 1970s and beginning his career in television.
The media veteran had a career spanning more than four decades in children’s entertainment and helped produce iconic children’s shows such as Play School and Blinky Bill.
He joined ABC in 2007 as Executive Director of Children’s Content and three years later became the network’s Controller of Children’s Content.
ABC confirmed Tim’s passing in a heartbreaking statement: “Our condolences go out to Tim’s family, friends and colleagues.”
Meanwhile, his former colleague Michael Carrington added: ‘Tim was more than just a brilliant industry colleague.
‘He was a friend and we shared an incredible journey together through children’s television.

Tim began his media career in 1983 working for Yoram Gross Film Studios and co-founded his own production company in 2002.
He left the ABC in 2013 and was later appointed chairman of Flying Bark Productions, the Australian animation studio that made Blinky Bill: The Movie in 2015.
Throughout his celebrated career, Tim helped create some of Australia’s most iconic youth shows including Dance Academy, Blue Water High and Yakkity Yak.
A memorial service will be held in Tweed Valley, New South Wales, on Friday.
