Verizon starts to opt-in customers for its call filtering service so that they can better identify and block spam conversations. The provider launched the free service earlier this year, but will now automatically download the call filter app on certain Android devices and customers opt for a certain amount of spam blocking using the service.

First released for free in March, Verizon's call filtering service allows customers to be notified when a call is likely to be spam, report unsolicited numbers, and block spam calls based on a "preferred level of risk." In June, however, the Federal Communications Commission voted to allow airlines to block standard robocalls, and Verizon now benefits from this new rule. Users can still log out if they want.

Verizon says that calls from numbers that have been reported as fraudulent are automatically blocked, while other numbers receive a warning message & # 39; potential spam & # 39; on the screen of the incoming call. Calls from known contacts remain unaffected. Users also have the option to block all international calls if they only receive spam.

A Verizon spokesperson said The edge that the rollout of the service will be spread, with new devices added every week. Users with iOS devices still have access to the service, but they must manually download the Belfilter app from Verizon.
