Vengaboys star Robin Pors reveals he was 'assaulted' by a 'horny' dolphin while filming music video

Date:

Vengaboys star Robin Pors has revealed he was “assaulted” by a “horned” dolphin but says he should take the bizarre encounter as a “compliment”.

The singer, 45, was asked about the incident during an interview with the Daily Star. Robin said, “The dolphin, yes that’s my story, yes I met a dolphin.

‘Some inappropriate things happened,’ Robyn’s bandmate Kim Sasapon once said.

Robin, while filming a music video on a tropical island in the Caribbean, was sexually assaulted by dolphins. Dolphins are very horny.

Speaking about filming a video for Hot Hot Hot in 2013, he explained: “I had to float in the water and I got to the tropical island and then my phone would ring and I would wake up and be like ‘Where am I?'” “

I had to be in the water to do the scene, but someone was like teasing me and I had to get out of the water and I wasn’t amused, I didn’t know what was going on.

“I can tell you if you’re in the ocean with dolphins and you think ‘that’s cute’ and then you feel how strong they are pushing you and doing weird things, it’s weird, but I have to take it as a compliment.

The Vengaboys topped the ’90s charts with dance anthems Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom!, We’re Going to Ibiza and We Like to Party.

And now, the band is bringing the party spirit into 2023 as they are set to return to the UK this year for their 25th anniversary, performing at a slew of music festivals across the country.

The Dutch group, known for their flashy outfits and powerful songs, are currently making their way across Australia on tour.

Vocalists Kim Sasabone and Denise Post-van Rayswick join male vocalists Robin Purse and Donnie LaToberissa to form the dance quartet, which previously included Roy Dunn Berger.

The Vengaboys will be landing in the UK in April – with their first stop in a city that knows how to party, Glasgow.

Moving to Glasgow’s Braehead Arena, the Vengaboys will be supporting Scottish EDM group The Time Frequency on April 22, with tickets available online from £49.29.

Next stop, Dorset. The band will also be performing at the family-friendly 3-day Teddy Rocks Festival on Friday, April 28th.

The band will kick off the first of three days, joining ’90s band East 17 and songwriter Jake Pugh at the Dorset Festival.

Vengaboys will bring nostalgia to London’s 90’s Super Show and Mighty Hoopla festivals.

The Super 90 show takes place in Indigo, D.C., on Saturday, April 29 and will also see performances by Jenny Berggren of Ace Of The Base and Swedish group Rednex.

While they will perform at the London Mighty Hoopla Festival on Sunday 4 June, which will also host Years & Years, Aqua, Kelly Rowland, Natasha Bedingfield and Sophie Ellis-Bexter.

Across April through October the band will travel across Scotland, Ireland and England for a slew of appearances – including the Elgin’s Macmoray Easter Festival, the Noughty 90’s Festival in Brighton and the Butlins ’90S Reloaded Festival in Somerset.

The band was brought to a spotlight in 1998 when their single We Like To Party peaked at number one in Belgium, before Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom topped the UK charts a year later.

After four albums, the group temporarily disbanded in 2002, as Denise went on to welcome their first child, Jayden, during the hiatus.

The band then reunited in 2006, with Roy, who later embarked on a career as a cabin crew member at KLM, being replaced by Donny as he never returned to the group.

Speaking previously about his decision to leave, Roy said, “I wanted to experience the world by myself, without any bodyguards, without any promotional people, without any record company people.”

Roy now goes by his social media moniker Connors and still enjoys life as a cabin attendant, while performing as drag queen Crystal Connors between flights.

When the Vengaboys returned with new member Donny, they began to re-appear on the club scene in 2006.

The band released new singles in 2010 and 2013, before creating a Christmas album in November 2014.

While they then supported Steps on Party on their Dance Floor Tour in November and December of 2017.

Now 25 years after their debut, The Vengaboys have enjoyed a 25th anniversary tour around Australia, before coming to the UK later this year.
