A vegetarian who has not eaten meat for 45 years claims she vomited after biting into a McDonalds Vegetable Deluxe burger that contained a chicken breast.
Louise Davies, 50, said she stopped at the McDonalds drive-thru in Hardwicke, Gloucester on May 28, on her way home to Stonehouse, as a treat for daughter (11), who had just finished school for the holidays.
The mother of one, who has been a vegetarian for most of her life, said she happily bit into the “veggie burger” but vomited “immediately” after tasting the meat.
The McDonald’s Vegetable Deluxe burger was supposed to have two veggie goujons with red peppers and pesto, but Louise said she had a terrible shock when she realized it was chicken.

The official said that despite not eating meat for 45 years, she immediately recognized the taste of the chicken after biting into the burger and running to the toilet to vomit.
She claims she was unwell and unable to eat for the next 12 hours, saying she doesn’t feel she can “trust anything” from the fast food restaurant.
McDonald’s has apologized for the mistake and said it would investigate the incident, admitting: “This just wasn’t good enough.”
Louise said, “I was immediately ill because I haven’t eaten meat in over 40 years. The texture and everything, I just had to rush to the toilet.
“That’s the effect that meat will have on me. I don’t even like the smell of it.

‘I didn’t really eat it, I bit into it and immediately threw up. I spat it out and threw up. I didn’t think to look in it, I just thought it was a veggie burger.’
She said she only vomited once, but “couldn’t eat” the rest of the evening.
Louise said, “It just reminded me of a kid in my grandmother’s kitchen, just the taste of it. Even then it made me sick.
“I can’t trust McDonald’s now that it’s vegetarian. It’s not the best place to go vegetarian to be honest when they are so careless. I feel upset and a little betrayed.’
The McDonalds Vegetable Deluxe burger should include two veggie goujons with red pepper and pesto (pictured), and Louise said she now feels she can’t “trust anything” from the fast food restaurant.
Louise said she finally managed to eat something more substantial the next morning with a strawberry, pineapple, banana and blackberry smoothie.
A McDonald’s spokesperson said: “We absolutely recognize that it is not acceptable to serve meat when our vegetarian product has been ordered, and we sincerely apologize to the customer for the mistakes made in this case.
“This just wasn’t good enough. We have a number of procedures in place to prevent inaccurate orders, but in this case they were clearly not followed and we are investigating why this happened.”
