A standard electric range of up to 325 miles is expected, but this may be as high as 435 miles in a later version. Prices start from £34,700 for the hybrid engines.

Another new electric SUV is coming to the UK soon, and this time it’s a Vauxhall.

The brand has unveiled the new Grandland, its versatile top-of-the-range SUV, and it will come with a choice of fully electric and hybrid powertrains to allow drivers a greater variety of options.

Next year, a version with a longer-range battery will arrive, which will surely give Tesla a run for its money.

A few months before the Grandland arrives in the UK, full specifications and pricing have been revealed.

The Grandland sits at the top of Vauxhall’s SUV range, both in terms of size and premium build, with the new model being the largest of the brand’s refreshed SUV offering, which includes the Mokka and the upcoming new Frontera.

For the first time, you’ll be able to get a Grandland powered solely by batteries – in fact, there are multiple all-electric options to choose from as part of the company’s acceleration towards electrification.

Vauxhall has promised to become an EV-only brand from 2028, with all cars having an electric option available by the end of 2024.

Initially, there is the option of a 73kWh battery and a 207bhp motor that can travel 325 miles on a single charge. 0-62mph will be covered in 9 seconds.

The top trim, GS, has the same battery as the Design trim, but a range of 323 miles (just two miles less).

A long-range version with a 98kWh battery pack that can travel an impressive 435 miles, putting it at the top of the SUV range charts, is coming next year.

It will be on par with the long-range Peugeot e-3008 and the Volkswagen ID.7.

Full specifications and pricing have been revealed for Vauxhall's flagship SUV, the Grandland. It's larger than the previous model, making it more spacious, practical and better value for money.

On all electric versions there will be three easily accessible regenerative braking modes (using the paddles on the steering wheel) to cover kilometres, and the battery will recharge in 26 minutes from 0 to 80 percent.

If you’re not quite ready to go all-electric, the new Grandland Hybrid combines a 134PS 1.2-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine with a 28PS electric motor.

You’ll get 51.4 mpg and go from 0 to 62 mph in 10.2 seconds.

Much of the exterior follows the concept, notably the 3D visor and illuminated Vauxhall Griffin logo in the centre of the grille on GS trim models and above.

A wide range of driver assistance systems can be expected in all Grandlands, including automatic cruise control with Stop & Go function, extended traffic sign recognition, intelligent speed adaptation and braking in the event of a collision, and recommended speed adaptation.

It is 4,650 mm long, slightly longer than the Peugeot 3008 (which shares the same engine manufactured by Stellantis) and the Ford Explorer. The 3008 and the Explorer measure 4,542 mm and 4,460 mm respectively.

A major attraction of the new Grandland is its increased practicality and interior space, thanks to the longer wheelbase (2,784 mm).

The boot has a capacity of 550 litres (an increase of 36 litres compared to the previous model) and with the seats folded down (split 40:20:40) the total load volume increases to 1,645 litres.

Rear passengers also enjoy an additional 20mm of legroom over the previous car.

There are also 35 litres of interior storage compartments, including the new ‘Pixel Box’, an illuminated glass storage receptacle with a wireless smartphone charging pad to keep your phone safe while it charges.

Interior updates include a slimmer 10-inch driver display and a massive 16-inch infotainment screen with ChatGPT (if anyone wants to use it).

But Vauxhall has stuck with the basic, winning formula of buttons for the air conditioning and radio: hurrah!

External updates include Vauxhall’s new HD Matrix anti-glare lighting system and many “Vauxhall Compass design features” previously only seen on the experimental concept unveiled a year ago.

Even EV ranges are expanding, offering 435 miles for a large SUV is still very impressive, especially for the price Vauxhall offers.

Prices and versions

There are three versions to choose from: Design, GS and Ultimate.

The Grandland Hybrid starts at £34,700 for the entry-level Design trim, while the Electric opens at £40,995.

While it’s a higher price to pay for an EV, it’s cheaper than its electric SUV rivals, including the Peugeot e-3008, which costs £44,995 for entry-level trim, and the Volkswagen ID.4, which costs £45,000.

The Ford Explorer also currently costs £45,000, but a cheaper sub-£40,000 (£39,995) option is due to arrive later this year.

Deliveries of the Grandland will begin in October.
