Several people have been injured in a stabbing in Vancouver, police said.

Vancouver police said officers responded to a “violent incident” near Robson Street and Hamilton Street in the city’s downtown area on Wednesday just after 3 p.m.

‘A number of people were stabbed and the suspect was shot by the police. We will provide more information as it becomes available,” the department said on X.

The horrific attack took place near the Vancouver Public Library, in an area usually busy with residents and tourists.

Footage posted to social media showed emergency responders rushing into a 7-Eleven store across the street from the library.

A video from The Canadian Press shows police pointing their weapons at a supermarket counter and shooting at least 10 times.

In the video, police can be heard shouting “move over” as several officers pointed their weapons at a target, the outlet said.

A disturbing video also showed a firefighter performing CPR on a victim as other responders carried him away on a stretcher.

They were then bundled into an ambulance, surrounded by police cruisers.

Police have cordoned off the intersection and emergency services are still on site.

The knifeman has yet to be identified and police have not released a suspected motive.
