Robin van Persie has revealed how his son Shaqueel was excited about his father’s prospect of teaming up with one of his favorite players, Wayne Rooney – because he thought the Englishman was moving to Arsenal.
The Dutchman had spent eight years in North London, where his family was based, before moving north in 2012.
And when Van Persie told his son that he and Rooney were to become teammates, he thought that meant England’s striker was headed for Emirates.

Instead, the pair teamed up with a devastating effect on Old Trafford, helping the team to the glory of the Premier League in 2013.
Van Persie told the Utd podcast: “Maybe I could have chosen other words. What I wanted to say from my point of view was [about] when you have to make a difficult decision – and it was a very difficult decision when you added everything together, because the past few months have been very difficult for me and my family at home.
“At one point I told Shaqueel, who was a fan of Wayne Rooney, I said,” Do you like the idea that I play with Rooney? “He said, ‘Yes, is he coming to Arsenal?’.

“I said,” No, no, no. We go there.
“He said,” But that’s far away, another city. “He was still quite young at the time and said,” I have friends at school and I am happy here. ” So he was not so happy with it, he was not too enthusiastic.
“With the kids, after three or four days in Manchester, they had new friends and they go so fast. They were very happy in Manchester.

“Many people told me, friends in London, that they asked why I was going to live in Manchester? It’s going to be difficult, they said, it’s really that bad and it’s always raining – the classic Manchester story.
“I said,” Okay, but I want to take the step. I do it.”
