Van Cleef & Arpels, the legendary jewelry house, is centering its timepieces with a compelling installation at South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, California now through April 16. The “Poetry of Time” pop-up is, fittingly, located in the Jewel Court mall, which has been transformed into an enchanted forest housing some of the brand’s most precious watches.
The dreamlike exhibit is inspired by nature and astronomy, two realms that inspire the home’s design and material choices. Debuting exclusively for this pop-up, the brand’s Sweet Alhambra watch (in rose gold and carnelian) and Lady Féerie Or Rose watch feature prominently in the vault.
The Alhambra collection – the sign of good luck from Van Cleef & Arpels – features an alternating bracelet of warm carnelian and rose gold clover-like shapes, and this installation on South Coast Plaza marks its pre-launch.
Fairies have also figured prominently in Van Cleef & Arpels aesthetics since the 1940s; the Féerie collection honors the pop-up’s enchantment theme by featuring a fairy – in a dress made of diamonds and pink sapphires – sitting on a mother-of-pearl cloud.
“The Poetry of Time installation reflects the Maison’s unique creativity and horological expertise,” said Helen King, President & CEO of Van Cleef & Arpels Americas, in a statement. “We are delighted to welcome visitors to our enchanted garden to discover our most precious creations and experience educational workshops with our Swiss artisans.”
The Perlée collection by Van Cleef & Arpels consists of five models with dials set with pave– set diamonds, guilloche rose gold and mother of pearl. And inspired by Carl Von Linné’s 1751 book Philosophy of Botanicathe house has reinterpreted the Swedish botanist’s “flower clock concept,” a hypothetical garden system with flowers that strategically open and close to indicate the time of day.
