Newcastle and Brentford top the Premier League injury list this season, while West Ham and Manchester City have kept their treatment rooms relatively empty.

According to data published by Premier Injuries, the Magpies have lost players for a staggering 1,333 days combined since the Premier League season began on August 11.

The prolonged layoffs have been compounded by the high number of injuries, which have seen Newcastle lose a player on 29 separate occasions, the highest number in the Premier League.

So far this season, Eddie Howe has been without Harvey Barnes for more than four months, while Sven Botman has missed 18 games in all competitions and Nick Pope is out until at least March after dislocating his shoulder in December.

Jacob Murphy, Elliot Anderson and Matt Targett have spent months on the sidelines, as have Joe Willock, Joelinton and Callum Wilson.

Manchester United and Brighton have each suffered 28 injuries, while Tottenham, Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace have had to deal with 27 dismissals.

Liverpool and Chelsea have also suffered 27 separate injuries each, a crisis illustrated by their teams’ combined 19 absences from the Carabao Cup final matchday at Wembley on Sunday.

Jurgen Klopp is still without Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ryan Gravenberch and has had to make do without Mo Salah following the injury he suffered while at the Africa Cup of Nations last month.

Liverpool remain on course to win three more trophies this season, but their quest has resulted in a hectic schedule, with the Reds playing 13 games in all competitions since the start of the year, the most of any Premier League team.

Liverpool have also played 41 games in all competitions this season, the most of any Premier League club except City, who have also played 41.

But unlike Liverpool, the intense schedule has not yet taken its toll on Pep Guardiola’s team.

City have lost players for a combined total of 565 days, the third-lowest total in the league behind West Ham and Everton at 331 and 555 days respectively.

This is despite the Premier League champions being without Kevin de Bruyne for four months until his return in January and Erling Haaland missing 12 games in all competitions.

Along with Wolves, West Ham have also suffered the fewest injuries so far with 13, followed by Bournemouth with 16.

After Newcastle, Brentford and Brighton are the teams most punished this season with 1,159 and 1,093 days out due to injuries respectively.

Chelsea are next on the list with 1,091, followed by Sheffield United with 1,081 and United and Spurs with 979 and 949 respectively.

Last week, Erik ten Hag lost Rasmus Hojlund until next month, just days after Lisandro Martínez was governed for eight weeks.

Luke Shaw could be out for the rest of the season, while long-term absentees Anthony Martial, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Tyrrel Malacia remain on the sidelines.

Casemiro, Raphael Varane and Harry Maguire have also missed part of the season due to fitness issues.
