A Utah CEO father and his daughter were killed in a freak accident after a bulldozer fell from a crane directly onto their SUV, crushing them to death.

Richard David Hendrickson and his daughter Sally died while traveling through Ogden Canyon in eastern Weber County, Utah.

A crane carrying an excavator was coming in the opposite direction along the narrow two-lane corridor when the machine overturned from behind, directly onto the pickup truck they were travelling in.

“As the truck was going around a curve, the excavator broke away from the crane,” said Trooper Heywood of the Utah Highway Patrol.

The excavator then fell sideways into the opposite lane, killing Hendrickson and his daughter.

His wife and two other children of the couple suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the accident.

“It is with profound sadness that we announce the tragic and sudden passing of our CEO and President, Richard David Hendrickson,” Hendrickson’s company, Lifetime Products, said in a statement Monday.

“This heartbreaking incident also claimed the life of one of their daughters, Sally,” the company said.

Another daughter was traveling abroad and was not in the family car.

“Richard started as a welder and progressed through multiple levels of the company to become president and CEO because of his extraordinary talents and abilities,” said Barry Mower, founder of Lifetime Products.

“He was one of my dearest and most trusted friends and he will be greatly missed. Life will not be the same without him. My love and condolences to his loving family.”

Following the tragic deaths, a petition It has been put in place to limit the type of vehicles that can drive on the narrow road.

‘Ogden Canyon, the narrow two-lane passageway that connects Ogden Valley to the city of Ogden, serves as a lifeline for many citizens of Weber County, Utah,’ the petition reads.

‘Flanked by the Ogden River on one side and rugged mountain cliffs on the other, this precarious piece of infrastructure is a stressful commute for families and young drivers traveling to school and other essential destinations.’

The petition reveals how the road offers “little to no shoulder width” in some sections of the canyon and larger vehicles pose a “substantial risk” to the safety of travelers.
