USWNT legend Alex Morgan announces her retirement

Women’s soccer legend Alex Morgan announced Thursday that she is retiring from soccer.

In a video posted on X, Morgan, 35, said she is pregnant with her second child and that her last game will be on Sunday, Sept. 8 when the NWSL’s San Diego Wave take on the North Carolina Courage at Snapdragon Stadium.

Morgan played for several professional clubs throughout her career, including three stints with the Orlando Pride, as well as with French side Lyon and Tottenham Hotspur of England’s FA Women’s Super League. She also represented the United States internationally 224 times with the senior national team, scoring 123 goals and leading the U.S. women’s national team to Olympic gold and two World Cup titles.
