Mass shooting at Colorado Springs nightclub leaves 5 dead, 18 injured

Five people were killed and 18 wounded when gunfire erupted at an LGBTQ nightclub in Colorado Springs, police said Sunday.

Police received a report of a shooting at Club Q at 11:57 p.m. Saturday, said Lt. Pamela Castro of the Colorado Springs Police Department,

A suspect, who was injured and was being treated, was in custody, Castro said. She said it was not immediately clear if officers had shot the suspect. The FBI was on the scene and assisted in the investigation, she said.

In a statement on his Facebook pageClub Q said it was “devastated by the senseless attack on our community. Our thoughts and prayers are with all the victims and their families and friends.”

“We appreciate the quick reactions of the heroic patrons who subdued the gunman and put an end to this hateful attack,” said the statement from the club, which describes itself as a nightclub and dance club.
