X footage from a fan park at the World Trade Center shows the moment Shadab Khan failed to handle the six that would have forced a second Super Over, sending the Americans into a frenzy, while Matthew, who traveled to New York from Utah, Yelled: ‘America, fuck yeah.’
‘USA!’ Chanting was also heard at the scene, as an American flag waved proudly among the crowd of a few hundred people.
“It’s a great achievement,” said United States captain Monank Patel, whose 50 was the cornerstone of his team’s 159-3 lead in the 20-over regulation match.
“To beat Pakistan, we will face them for the first time, I am very proud of how we played.” It was a proper team effort from the first ball to the last.”

Aaron Jones, who smashed an unbeaten 40-ball 94 against Canada, once again starred co-hosting the tournament as he stretched the game to the wire with another vital knock of 36 without getting out of 26.
Jones hit a six off Haris Rauf and then a single before Nitish Kumar’s boundary off the last ball tied the score at 159 at the end of regulation time, as Pakistan’s experienced fast bowler gave away 14 runs off the last six balls.
Both teams will next play India in New York, with the United States returning to action for their third group match on Wednesday.
Pakistan panicked in the super when experienced fast bowler Mohammad Amir, preferred over Shaheen Shah Afridi, gave away 18 runs which included seven runs off wide balls when Jones smashed a boundary against the left-arm seamer.
Left-arm fast bowler Saurabh Netravalkar, who earlier bowled brilliantly and took 2-18 in his four overs, conceded just 13 runs in the super over to give the United States its most historic Twenty20 victory against Pakistan, the champions of 2009.
Iftikhar Ahmed broke the boundary off Netravalkar’s second ball, before holing out from long distance as the left-arm seamer kept his cool and snatched a famous victory for the United States.
Both teams will next play India in New York, with Pakistan taking on their arch-rivals on Sunday before the United States return to action on Wednesday.
