US Supreme Court strikes down New York law restricting concealed carry licenses
BREAKING NEWS: US Supreme Court overturns New York law that required concealed carry permit applicants to demonstrate good reason why they should carry a gun
The Supreme Court has repealed a law in New York that required applicants seeking a concealed carry license to demonstrate “good reason” for their request.
Thursday’s 6-3 ruling overturned the opinion of a lower court that had upheld New York’s 108-year-old law that limits licenses to carry concealed weapons in public to individuals who demonstrate a specific need or threat.
Judge Clarence Thomas delivered the majority opinion, writing that New York law prevents law-abiding citizens from exercising their Second Amendment rights.
The court’s decision comes as the Senate was set for a vote Thursday to pass a bipartisan gun control law, in what could be the first new federal gun law in decades.
