Boss of US private equity firm looking to buy Morrisons is hired to lead UK Government Investments

The partner in a large private equity firm has been appointed by the Treasury as head of UK Government Investments

The partner in a large private equity firm has been appointed by the Treasury as head of UK Government Investments (UKGI).

Vindi Banga is a senior member of Clayton Dubilier & Rice (CD&R), one of the American predators out to get Morrisons.

From September, he will become chairman of UKGI, the body that advises the government on corporate governance and corporate finance matters, such as bank bailouts and the sale of the Treasury’s stake in Natwest.

The appointment is likely to startle business leaders who argue that the government is being too friendly with private equity.
