US basketball fans went crazy over Kevin Durant’s one-line response about representing America and patriotism.
Durant has been one of the most important American basketball players of the 21st century and was instrumental in Team USA’s comeback win over Serbia in the Olympic semifinals on Thursday.
The United States trailed its European rivals by 13 points late in the third quarter and outscored Serbia 32-15 over the final 10 minutes.
Durant, along with Steph Curry and LeBron James, were the catalyst trio that led the United States to the gold medal game.
The Phoenix Suns star and future first-ballot Hall of Famer weighed in with his thoughts on wearing the red, white and blue loud and clear.
Team USA’s Kevin Durant gave a one-line response about the patriotism that basketball fans love
“A lot of stupid things happen in our country, but a lot of great things happen, too,” Durant said.
Durant’s comment has been well received, with some even saying his quote should appear on government buildings.
“The motto of the generation,” said one American basketball fan.
Durant’s final Olympic stint in Paris will be against the French host nation in the final, which will be another tough test.
Leading this U.S. team to a gold medal will be a tremendous accomplishment, and Durant will likely further demonstrate what it means to represent the United States.
