Urgent warning for Australians to ‘recheck’ the inside of your barbecue

Australians have been urged to check their barbecues after an owner was horrified to find a monster snake lurking under the grill.

The Queenslander made a chilling discovery when he went to put the gas bottle back inside the barbecue.

The images show Stuart McKenzie of Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers 24//7, removing the carpet python that was stuck inside.

Moments later, Mr. McKenzie pulls the two-meter-long reptile out of the barbecue.

“Get out… get out of the barbecue and back into the bush,” says Mr. McKenzie.

The perched six-foot snake was found inside a Queensland home’s barbecue after forcing its way under the grill.

He explained to the resident that the snake was just a baby, despite its size.

“This one is only…probably three or four years old yet,” he said.

“He’s not a bad length…this one’s probably over six feet…six and a half feet.”

Mr McKenzie said the animal can be up to three meters long.

He warned people to ‘check’ their outdoor cooking areas before using them as he has been called to a number of homes to remove snakes found inside.

“The barbecue is basically a perfect place for snakes, because if there’s leftover food, rats often come in, so snakes come after rodents,” he said. Yahoo News Australia.

It comes as the weather begins to warm up in Australia and experts predict an early snake season across the country.

Billy Collett, operations manager at the Australian Reptile Park, said Australia is in for a long snake season due to the early onset of warmer conditions.

“We’re going to see some juveniles earlier this season,” he recently told Daily Mail Australia.

“We’re coming off of two incredibly wet years where…snakes weren’t breeding as much.”

“This season we should see a lot of babies.”
