A silver boat containing toxic waste has washed up on a popular Queensland beach, prompting an urgent warning for beachgoers.
The boat was found while water police were carrying out patrols off Curtis Island, near Cape Capricorn in Gladstone, on Wednesday.
The discovery prompted police to issue a statement warning people not to pick up any boats while spending time on the beach.

“Do not attempt to move or open these containers,” the statement said.
‘The container measures approximately 30cm long and 15cm in diameter and contains a toxic chemical which could be harmful if handled.
“It has subsequently been removed.”
