They are some of the most popular smartphones around the world, but if you have an iPhone, make sure to update it immediately as Apple releases iOS 18.0.1.
iOS 18.0.1 update includes ‘important bug fixes and security updates’ for your iPhone
The iOS 18.0.1 update was released last night and is available for iPhone XS and later.
In the patch notes for the update, Apple says it has fixed an issue where “the touchscreen may temporarily become unresponsive under certain circumstances on iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models.”
This will be good news for iPhone 16 users who have reported that their new phones’ screens are often unresponsive since the iOS 18 update.
On X, formerly Twitter, one commenter wrote: ‘iPhone 16 Pro Max is buggy AF! from the touchscreen becoming unresponsive to the phone switching to a lower refresh rate.”
Another commenter wrote: “I spent $1600 on an iPhone 16 Pro Max, only to see it freeze and crash at least twice a day.”
‘My iPhone 16 pro has been pretty unusable since I bought it. “It freezes, it crashes, it repeats,” added another.
In addition to fixing this frustrating issue, Apple says the iOS 18.0.1 update will fix an issue that caused the camera to freeze when recording with the Ultra Wide camera.
The latest iOS 18 update aims to fix two bugs that cause the iPhone 16 screen and camera app to freeze or crash unexpectedly.
Since the release of iOS 18, several iPhone 16 customers have reported that their phone screens frequently become unresponsive.
One X commenter said the problems with his phone were bad enough that it was “pretty unusable.”
The patch also includes a fix for a bug where “messages may close unexpectedly when replying to a message with a shared Apple Watch face.”
This update comes alongside the release of iPadOS 18.0.1 for iPad Pro 13-inch, iPad Pro 12.9-inch 3rd generation and later, iPad Pro 11-inch first generation and later, iPad Air 3rd generation and later , iPad 7th generation and later, and iPad mini 5th generation and later.’
The iPad update release comes after iPadOS 18 was unexpectedly pulled after a rare issue was reported bricking some M4 iPad Pros.
This will be the first time iPad users will be able to try out many of the new features included in iOS 18, such as home screen customization and a revamped Control Center.
Even if you haven’t been affected by any of these issues, cybersecurity experts say it’s vital that you update to the latest software as soon as possible.
Experts say it’s important to update to the latest software as soon as possible to ensure you’re protected from cybercriminals.
Jake Moore, global cybersecurity advisor at ESET, told MailOnline: “It’s vital that people ensure their devices are automatically updated to the latest operating system.”
“Outdated operating systems can be left vulnerable to attacks, as criminals can use these localized exploits to attack people’s data on their phones.”
Moore notes that iOS 18 also includes some important security updates, such as a new standalone passwords app.
“The Passwords app is a much easier way to create and manage all your passwords, passcodes, verification codes, and more,” says Moore.
“Everything is end-to-end encrypted and you can easily create groups and share passwords with those who also need access.”
iPadOS 18.0.1 also makes iOS 18 available for iPad for the first time since the update was removed due to a rare bug that irreversibly bricked some M4 iPad Pros.
To update your iPhone or iPad to iOS 18.0.1, simply open the Settings app and navigate to the section marked General.
From here you should see the “Software Update” option near the top of the screen.
Clicking this will immediately bring up the option to update to the latest available software.
Alternatively, from the Settings page, you may see a notification saying “Software update available.” Selecting this option will take you to the same update page.
Once you’ve found the update, tap “Update Now” to install the software immediately or “Update Tonight” to install it while your phone charges overnight.
Apple explains: “If you select Update tonight, iPhone will attempt to update when the device is locked and the battery has enough charge.”
