Your next day trip: How to find an ‘incredibly beautiful’ waterfall hidden in a magical rainforest raved about by adventurers
- Travelers flock to Beauchamp Falls
- Approximately three hours from Melbourne
- Visitors say winter is the best time to go
Adventure seekers have discovered a magical waterfall hidden in a stunning national park just outside a major Australian city.
Known as one of the most stunning waterfalls in Otway Forest Park, Beauchamp Falls is a two-hour and forty-minute drive southwest of Melbourne and only 35 kilometers inland from the famous Great Ocean Road.
A towering waterfall is a nice bonus at the end of a three-kilometer hiking trail that winds through the park’s enchanting rainforest.
The water cascades 20 meters down the rocky surface covered with vines and moss into a large pool under which visitors enjoy a dip.
While the waters may get icy as the weather starts to cool down, Beachamp Falls are just as stunning in winter as visitors can see the roaring falls in all their glory after a bout of rain.

To reach the falls, visitors have to follow a very challenging hiking trail that descends steeply to a viewing platform.
Through the dense forest of myrtle beech trees and giant ferns, some lucky walkers might be able to spot a fairy house in a tree trunk bottle.
There is no direct access to the falls but with observation, brave hikers can carefully navigate the rocky and sometimes slippery slopes to the water’s edge.
People who frequent the area say winter is the best time to visit as there are fewer tourists, so guests may have the area to themselves.

One traveler described Beauchamp Falls as “incredibly beautiful” while another recommended going early in the morning.
We went early around 8 am and there was no one. It was watering with all the rain we’ve had lately,” they wrote online.
One of the best waterfalls I’ve ever been to. Such a nice hike to get to, not too difficult. Really cool waterfall…you can swim in the water if you like. Thani said: It’s a big waterfall and it creates a really peaceful atmosphere.
Someone recommended people wear “tough walking shoes” because some sections near the waterfall can be muddy and contain slippery rocks.
