A bizarre set of requirements for an entry-level IT role has sparked outrage among bewildered Australians who claim the company is taking the piss.
OracleCMS, a leading Melbourne-based call center, recently advertised a Junior C# Developer position that comes with a salary of between $45,000 and $65,000 per year.
The company is looking for an IT graduate with at least a bachelor’s degree (preferably a master’s degree) along with “more than three years” of software development experience.
Potential applicants are also warned that the job is “100 percent in-person” and comes with a long list of required skills.
“Are you obsessed with writing clean, readable code and excited to contribute to programming software that helps customers?” said the listing published earlier this month.
“Join this dynamic team and play a crucial role in developing B2B management and software applications that are revolutionizing the software world.”
The list sparked outrage among Australians when it was shared on Reddit on Sunday.
‘What the fuck is this job offer?’ wrote the author.
An IT job offer in a call center has caused a fury among Australians
“I don’t understand how they can call a candidate with more than three years of experience and preferably an entry-level master’s degree.”
‘What a joke. You would have had at least three or four years of university and three years of real experience for a total of seven years of learning/experience to be considered entry level and an absolutely disgraceful salary.’
The national minimum wage is just below $48,000.
The Professional Employee Award, which covers IT workers, stipulates a minimum annual salary of $61,638 for graduates with three-year degrees.
“This is called red flag business/taking the f***,” one Australian commented.
Another sarcastically added: “Oh yeah, the entry-level developer with three years of team management experience.”
Others questioned whether the company was manipulating labor market tests to then sponsor a foreign worker.
Young Australians said the company was taking the trouble with requirements for a ‘junior’ role
‘They will use this as an excuse to outsource labor abroad or implement AI. “They will never find someone who is ‘suitable’ because the list is a joke, and someone with a master’s degree in computer science would be a clown to accept it,” one commented.
Another added: “Typically, companies simply complete labor market testing as (a) tick-the-box exercise and will add a two to three year work experience requirement to limit the applications they receive so they don’t seem so bad when they do it. “I don’t accept any applicants,” said one.
But some debunked that theory by pointing out that the salary for the position is below the $74,150 threshold for temporary skilled migration visa holders.
Daily Mail Australia has contacted OracleCMS for comment.
It comes a month after a major breach of customer data earlier this year.
In April, ransomware operator LockBit leaked more than 60 gigabytes of data to the dark web, including phone numbers and call details for more than 50 of OracleCMS’ customers, according to cyberdiary.
It affected more than a dozen Australian councils, including the City of Sydney, law firms, aged care providers and others.
In a July update, OracleCMS said its response to the incident had ended.
“We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our customers for their understanding and patience and also thank the government entities that have provided us with guidance and support during our response to the incident,” a notice on its site read.
