A university student shared how she discovered that a perverted roommate secretly filmed her in the bathroom after hiding his iPhone in a metal box.
Aubrey, which is not her real name, was shocked to discover that the Peeping Tom had secretly admitted her and others to the on-site toilet shared by 15 students.
The University of Lincoln student had become suspicious after noticing that the container placed in the bathroom of their student graves had a small hole in the corner.
Video footage filmed by Aubrey shows the moment when she and a friend broke open the box to find the cell phone inside and a place mat that said, “Keep calm, I’m a student.”
The shocked couple then reported the case to the police, and the creepy housemate was arrested and charged with voyeurism.
A lot of Lincoln University students got suspicious when they noticed that this utility box was strategically propped up in their shared bathroom
Female students living in the property took it upon themselves to investigate and were shocked to discover an iPhone set up in the box and held in place
The pervert, refusing to mention Aubrey not to “ruin his life,” pleaded guilty and was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment, suspended for two years.
He was also made to sign the Sex Offenders Register for over five years, but was allowed to continue his distance and off-campus studies in Lincoln.
Speak with student news website The tab, Aubrey said, “It all started when we had pre-drinks at home.
“There was a pink, closed box in the bathroom from the day we entered the apartment together.
“Everyone assumed there were utilities in it and didn’t think about it, but I was always suspicious because it had a man-made little hole on one side of the box.
“When I went to the bathroom, I always turned it against the wall. It would always be quickly reverted to the original position by someone else.
The corner of the red box seemed cracked and on closer inspection had a man-made hole. It wasn’t until the two girls shined a light into the opening that they realized the bright reflection meant that there was a camera hidden inside
“Some of us planned to go out one night, but it was getting late so I stayed indoors. I went to the bathroom and noticed that the box had been moved to the toilet.
“I thought ‘that’s weird’ but picked it up and moved it back. I went to my friend’s room and asked if she thought the box was suspicious.
“She said she picked it up before anything rattled inside. We talked about it and wondered what could be inside.
“She wondered if it could have a camera in it, but we turned it down because it felt ridiculous.
“Later she goes to the toilet, she comes back and said the box was put back on the toilet.
“Then we got really suspicious and said,” What’s going on here? “It was actually very scary. We didn’t know who it was back then. ‘
The couple did some research online and read that if there was a camera in the lens, they would reflect to them if they shone bright light.
Aubrey added, “You could tell right away that there was a small camera in the hole.
“We took the box, took it to a bedroom, and sat there for a while to see what was inside the little hole.
“We could see there was a phone. We managed to grab the box by prying it open with scissors. ‘
They found an iPhone, as well as a placemat that said ‘Keep Calm I’m A Student’, which was used to hang the phone and stick it to the lid of the box.
After opening the box, the students were shocked to discover the phone held in place with a ‘Keep Calm Im a University Student’ coffee mat and blu tack
Evidential photos were taken because the suspect refused to give the phone access code. After changing his story, he claimed that the phone was in the box to amplify the sound of his music
Aubrey said, “I didn’t know if this was a joke. In the group chat we had, he asked where the red box from the bathroom had gone. He said the box contained his toothbrush and toothpaste.
“We said we opened it and found this phone in it. Then he changed the story, he said he put his phone in to amplify his music.
He even said he would contact the police to report it as stolen. He was just looking for ways to return the phone.
“I went to the Student Union the next day and asked what they thought I should do and they told me to go to the police, which I did afterwards.
“I explained everything to them. The police told me that he liked to unlock the phone and they found a video.
“It was a video of myself and two other roommates on the toilet. The camera saw everything and it was so embarrassing. It was really awful.
“I didn’t want to ruin his life, but I wanted him to be aware that what he was doing was wrong.
Lincoln University says it has “a robust policy to deal with inappropriate behavior, including disciplinary action where necessary.”
“I didn’t know him very well. He spent much of his time upstairs playing video games with his friends. I didn’t really interact with him very much.
“He seemed pretty decent to me, I never had any problems with him. I think that’s the most shocking thing because you just didn’t expect it. ‘
A Lincoln University spokesman said, “We cannot comment on individual cases.
“Any student who wishes to express concerns about the behavior of another student or employee can do so in confidence by contacting our Student Support Center. Confidential advice is also available via the Students’ Union.
