Universal Music has signed a deal with Facebook owner Meta as it attempts to allay concerns over artificial intelligence.
The world’s largest music label has signed a deal with the social media giant that will allow users to share songs without violating copyright.
Universal, whose artists include Ariana Grande and Taylor Swift, has been pushing to sign deals with social media companies to ensure its musicians are properly paid for their hits.
The deal with Meta, which also owns Instagram, will also address “unauthorized AI-generated content.”
That includes songs pushed through artificial intelligence systems (often without the singers’ permission) and reworked into new versions.
Rivals Sony Music and Warner Music have also sounded the alarm about the impact of AI.
