Unemployment rose in the United Kingdom in light of the increase in inflation rates

Date:

The Office for National Statistics said in a statement that the unemployment rate rose to 3.9 percent from 3.8 percent in the three months to February.

The unemployment rate in the United Kingdom increased in the three months ending at the end of March, official figures showed on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, while high inflation weighed on the labor market.

The Office for National Statistics said in a statement that the unemployment rate rose to 3.9 percent from 3.8 percent in the three months to February.

British Finance Minister Jeremy Hunt said, commenting on these figures, “It is encouraging that the unemployment rate remains unprecedentedly low, but the difficulty in finding a labor force and high prices is a concern for many families and companies.”

“Therefore, we must adhere to our plan to reduce inflation by half and help families in terms of the cost of living, while continuing reforms in child care and support for the elderly and people with special needs who wish to work,” he added.

The annual inflation rate in the United Kingdom remains high, as the rise in food prices offsets the effect of falling energy prices.
