A health expert has revealed some of the weirdest pregnancy symptoms — and shared the real reason women experience each one.
Claudia Bastidis, MBBS, who is the director of medical precision at Flow Health, recently talked about some of the things that can happen to a mom’s body that aren’t talked about—from lucid dreams and bleeding gums to darkened nipples and a heightened sense of smell.
Almost every pregnant woman knows to look out for the common signs like morning sickness, missed period, and sore breasts, but in reality there are a lot of changes that happen after pregnancy that aren’t as well known.
According to the doctor, one of the most unexpected indications that you are having a baby is the change in your dreams.

“While this is an unexpected symptom for many, it is often normal to have particularly vivid and frequent dreams during pregnancy,” she explained.
Dreaming occurs during the REM phase of the sleep cycle, and we typically experience four or five dream episodes a night.
“However, pregnant women may wake more frequently throughout the night and are more likely to recall their dreams, as REM is frequently interrupted.”
Claudia said that another thing a pregnant woman should expect is a “sudden sharp pain” in the “vagina or pelvic” area.
And while some might think that meant something was wrong with the baby, she insisted that it was, in fact, completely normal.
“It is more prevalent in the third trimester, which may be due to increased pressure on the pelvic nerves as your baby grows,” she said.
Plus, she explains, pregnant women may have an increased sensitivity to smells or tastes, as well as a change in the color of their nipples — due to their changing hormone levels.

Veins in the breast may become more prominent as blood flow to the breast increases.

Another thing to watch out for when you’re expecting is something known as pregnancy gingivitis — or bleeding gums.
Hormonal changes during pregnancy can make your gums more susceptible to plaque, which leads to inflammation and bleeding. NHS He said.

Some women may notice nasal congestion due to inflammation of the lining of the mucous membranes, while hot flashes can occur when their metabolism speeds up.
