Ulrika Jonsson recalls heartbreak over partner who abandoned her after their baby’s heart surgery

Ulrika Jonsson has shared her grief over the fact that her partner ran away shortly after their daughter Bo’s life-saving heart surgery.

In her latest column with The sun, the 54-year-old TV personality started at the painful time of breaking up with then-partner Markus Kempen, who went abroad just weeks after Bo, now 21, was born.

Speaking candidly in her article, Ulrika admitted she was concerned that Bo and Markus might meet again because they happen to be in the same country, revealing that the union could “open a can of worms.”

About the time before Markus left, Ulrika said there had been “breaks” in their relationship even before their daughter was born, and said there were “red flags” when they tried unsuccessfully to live together before.

Of his departure, she told how he stood ‘outside the maternity ward’ smoking cigarettes and ‘planing his escape’ as she struggled to give birth.

She continued: ‘After her first surgery when she was six days old, I was allowed to take her home. On the way, in the car, he announced that he had taken a job abroad and was leaving at short notice.

“I was in the back of the car rocking my kid—not ours. I knew she was chronically ill, might not survive future heart surgery—and had just been abandoned by half her parents.”

Ulrika emotionally explained that the depression she soon developed was one of the “deepest and darkest” times of her life, insisting that she fought “relentlessly” to “give Markus a place in her life.” [Bo’s] life.’

The former Gladiators host moved on to Bo, who works as a nanny in Greece, meeting her father for the first time in nearly 21 years, while the Markus is also currently in the same country.

Ulrika spoke of her “fear” and “concern” that they would meet without her present, fearing it would open a “can of worms” for her daughter that she is not ready for yet.

She said: ‘If she wants to meet him, I’ve always supported her and I always will. It’s been a restless sense of hope and fear these past few weeks… If he can enrich or improve her life, who am I to stand in their way? I never sullied her about her biological father.’

Ulrika is also mother to son Cameron, 26, with John Turnbull, daughter Martha, 17, with Lance Gerrard-Wright and son Malcolm, with ex Brian Monet.

Ulrika has often been open about daughter Bo’s heart condition and announced in April this year that Bo – who has a congenital heart defect – was rushed to hospital.

The star had to wait nervously for the test results for her sick daughter after being hospitalized overnight, with Ulrika hourly reports on her progress at the moment.

Bo has been in and out of hospital over the years as a result of her condition – she was born with a double-inlet left ventricular defect, a birth defect that affects the valves and chambers of the heart.

As a baby, she had to undergo life-saving surgery on her heart, but Ulrika did not reveal why Bo had been hospitalized.

Last month Ulrika greeted Bo as a “warrior” when she went for a health check.

The TV host shared a series of snaps on her Instagram stories of Bo laying with the doctor while getting a liver scan.

The former Celebrity Big Brother star posted a photo of the couple sitting in the waiting room together as she called Bo her “CHD Warrior.”
