A property in Scotland that is being dubbed the UK’s “darkest house” due to its moody interiors and furnishings has hit the market for £195,000.
The unique property in Broxburn, West Lothian, appears to have an all-black theme, with a dark front gate, as well as fencing, external walls and a black shed in the rear garden.
The stairs, floors, kitchen appliances, as well as most of the ceilings and walls of the three-bedroom house are also black.
Soft purple furnishings such as curtains, feature walls and sofa cushions blend with the dark interiors, making this semi-detached property a strong contender for the title of ‘the darkest house in the UK’.
The sale is handled by Prime Property Auctions and the listing describes “a large living room and spacious kitchen,” as well as “additional storage with a good-sized shed and a large garage.”
The agency is currently accepting offers for the exclusively furnished property with a deadline of 5pm on Thursday 16 January.
This isn’t the first time a house with unusual decorative elements has sparked conversation.
Last November, the listing of a property for a picturesque house in Northamptonshire left hundreds of people shocked thanks to a very unexpected feature.

The photo shows the kitchen of the house.
The house has four bedrooms, a conservatory, a spacious kitchen and a cozy living room, but it was the dining room that left social media users and potential buyers baffled.
On the wall of the open plan dining and kitchen area is a huge photo mural of a hedgehog staring at anyone who enters.
The “strange” decor choice in an otherwise normal home caught the attention of online home lovers and divided opinions.
From the outside, the £825,000 property presents itself as a normal English country house and the charming theme continues inside, making the eight-foot mural of woodland creatures even more out of place.
Many were perplexed by the feature and stated that they were surprised when they saw the listing photos.
‘That legitimately made me laugh out loud, what kind of thought process goes into that decision?!?’ asked a woman on Reddit.
“The house seems to have been very well built to sell, elegant but nothing extravagant, enough material to make it lived-in and homely, but not too personal, etc. And then BAM, wall of hedgehogs that appears out of nowhere, just when you leave “Baja the guard,” wrote a second.
‘What a strange addition to a good house that would otherwise be perfectly presentable. These people know they’re trying to sell it, right? a third laughed.

Earlier this week, an advert for a £1,350 storage room in London went viral on X, with social media users criticizing the owner for enforcing what many considered unreasonable rules.
The landlord posted the advert on rental website Spare Room, hoping to find someone to occupy a bedroom at his home in Hampstead Heath, north London.
But the host has since come under a barrage of criticism online after requiring potential tenants to follow a set of strict rules – all while paying through the nose.
The poster asked that hopeful tenants work “long hours in the city during the week”, leave London at weekends and avoid having guests or using the living room.
Seeing the listing while searching for potential homes, one hopeful renter took to
X user Sophia posted screenshots of the original listing along with the caption: “Anyone looking for a single room with no heating, where I can’t make noise and can only be home from 8:30 pm to 8 am (only weekday)? Here’s one for a bargain price (£1350)!!!’
The listing says: ‘I work many hours from the living room so this area is not available for use. This space would be ideal for someone who works long hours in the city during the week and goes out of town on the weekends.
Tenants are also asked not to return home until after 8:30 pm, as this is when the host conducts “audible” violin lessons.
Meanwhile, the property itself has no central heating and tenants must use an electric heater “which can be set via a timer on your phone”.
The post, which has now been viewed nearly a million times, includes a link to the list, although it appears to have been modified since it appeared on X.
