UFC Hall of Famer Michael Bisping insists the upcoming fight between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul should not take place after the boxing legend suffered a medical scare earlier this week.
On May 26, the 57-year-old man suffered an ulcer flare-up during a flight from Miami to Los Angeles and required medical assistance after feeling “nausea and dizziness 30 minutes before landing.”
Reacting to the health scare and the struggle in your Youtube channelBisping noted that the phrase “there is no such thing as bad press” does not apply to this buildup.
“Mike Tyson was involved in a medical emergency, paramedics had to be rushed to the plane, doctors had to come to get Mike Tyson off the plane – it’s not looking good,” Bisping said.
“This is not good press when you’re trying to promote a fight when you’re 58 years old.”
Michael Bisping argued that the fight between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson on July 20 should not happen
On May 26, Tyson was helped off a plane after developing an ulcer during a flight.
Paul and Tyson will meet in the ring on July 20 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The event will be the first boxing match to be broadcast live on Netflix as the streaming platform continues to expand its sports library.
After Tyson’s health scare led to speculation about the fight being cancelled, Paul responded online, saying “nothing (has) changed.”
While highlighting his respect for the combat sports icon, the former UFC middleweight champion criticized the fight taking place despite the huge mismatch stemming from their 30-year age difference.
“I respect him; it takes a lot of guts to take on Jake Paul,” Bisping said. “Now listen, maybe it was an ulcer outbreak, I don’t know anything about ulcers, but what I do know is that the man will be 58 years old; a man in the prime of his life has no problem sitting on a plane for a few hours .
The Count emphasized how the circumstances present a bad look for boxing and for Paul, saying: “This is just a great example of why a fight like this should not take place.”
Paul and Tyson will meet in a sanctioned boxing match on July 20.
Paul has a 9-1 record with wins over Nate Diaz, Ben Askren and Anderson Silva.
Tyson maintained a record of 50-6 with 44 knockouts before retiring from professional boxing in 2005.
‘I’m not talking shit about Mike Tyson. He wants to test the waters, he wants to make some money and feel alive, and he wants to do what he does best. But that time has passed, that ship sailed, that plane left the runway… but not for a while because it was hot on the plane, and then Mike Tyson got an ulcer.’
‘I believe the man is close to 60 years old and has some medical problems; Maybe he just had a little food poisoning or ate something that just didn’t agree with him, but what we do know is that a paramedic took him off the plan and they called for medical assistance. That’s not a good look.
With the fight sanctioned as a professional fight, Bisping criticized Paul for picking a fight with someone 30 years his senior.
Bisping accused Paul of choosing carefully when fighting another aging combat sports legend.
After Tyson health scare, Paul said ‘nothing has changed’ about scheduled fight
While in his prime, Tyson was one of the greatest boxers to grace the ring. Iron Mike compiled a record of 50-6 with 44 knockouts. After losing his last two professional fights, Tyson ended his career in 2005. He then returned to action in an exhibition against legend Roy Jones Jr. in 2020, but has not competed since.
On the other hand, Paul has a 9-1 record mostly fighting YouTubers and professional wrestlers who are past their prime. Paul has wins over Tyson Woodley, Ben Askren, Nate Diaz and Anderson Silva. His only defeat came when he fought Tommy Fury in 2023.
“Jake Paul is in the prime of his life and he’s just picking another opponent to bolster his resume and look good,” Bisping said. “It’s absolutely disgraceful, it’s a shame, it’s a travesty, it’s absolute shit.”
