UFC fighter Irene Aldana suffered one of the nastiest cuts in the history of the sport during her fight at the Las Vegas Sphere against Brazilian Norma Dumont.
Superstar Sean O’Malley was the main event, but there was still plenty of attention focused on the two bantamweights meeting in Saturday night’s historic event.
The fight proved to be a close affair in the first round before a clash of heads resulted in the 36-year-old boxer suffering a grotesque cut to her face.
Commentator Jon Anik referred to the cut as a “slot machine” style cut, while UFC legends like Daniel Cormier praised the Mexican fighter for continuing to fight as blood poured from her face.
The brutal beating was not helped by Dumont’s obvious focus on attacking the area. The doctor did what he could to treat the wound, but not much could be done due to the size of the injury.

The 36-year-old has blood coming from the laceration, but continued fighting in Las Vegas.
Aldana lost the fight 30-27 out of three judges to fall to 15-8 in his career, though he won many fans.
The Mexican was one of several wrestlers of Mexican descent who fought in honor of the country’s independence day.

Dana White hosted the event, also called ‘UFC Night’ in honor of Mexican Independence Day, the first sporting event in the futuristic Las Vegas Sphere.
The card featured seven fighters of Mexican descent, headlined by Alexa Grasso, who was defending her women’s flyweight title against legend Valentina Shevchenko.
This victory marked Dumont’s fifth consecutive time in the Octagon, improving to 8-2 in the UFC.
Meanwhile, Aldana, the former UFC women’s bantamweight title challenger, is now 4-4 in her last eight fights.
