UFC chief Dana White has pointedly shut down Paulo Costa after the Brazilian urged the sport to pay him more money for being a main event fighter.

The UFC middleweight contender recently took to Twitter to express his dismay at his current payment situation, before complaining about how much YouTubers are earning for their exhibition fights.

Costa declined to fight Jared Cannonier in August because he believed the promotion wasn’t paying him enough to compete, leading to his Twitter rant.

“Under 350k is a joke,” Costa said in his social media tirade. “UFC has to pay me as a main fighter to be able to fight in main events. Youtubers show all the shame about this company. Just to be clear. I never signed or locked that contract. Why Did UFC Announce This Fight If It Didn’t Sign? My question too.’

Logan Paul’s recent boxing match against legend Floyd Mayweather – an eight round bout that would not result in either a winner or a loser – caused quite a stir, with the YouTuber reportedly making in the region of $26 million (£14 million) when PPV numbers and everything else was accounted for.

But White had no complaints from Costa, urging the 30-year-old to cancel his contract if he wasn’t happy, while also tearing into his ‘terrible’ final appearance in his defeat to Israel Adesanya at UFC 253 in September. .

He’s under contract,” White said Aaron Bronsteter of TSN. “I’m supposed to get people to cancel their contract just because they’re mad that YouTube kid is fighting and making money?

‘You should be happy for the child, good for him. He put himself in a position where he was able to fight Floyd Mayweather and make a lot of money. You’re crazy?

“You just put in a ridiculous, horrible performance. Come back and empower yourself to do something great.”

“You know what I say all the time, we have fights every weekend,” the UFC president continued, deflecting Costa’s tirade.

“If you want to be busy, you can fight every weekend if you want. Get out of your contract and do what you want to do.’

Kelvin Gastelum has now replaced Costa for the fight against Cannonier on August 21 after the Brazilian pointed the finger at UFC for not paying.
