Hurley started the superstition last year, according to his wife Andrea, who told the New York Post that her husband wore the same red boxers with cartoon dragons to every NCAA tournament game, and UConn won by beating San Diego. State 76-75 in the title game.

This year, Hurley, 51, continued his March tradition, as he said it “calms me down a little bit” before key matchups.

In addition to wearing the boxers to the White House later this year, Hurley will also wear them to the Huskies parade in Hartford, Connecticut.

Putting on his dragon underwear as part of his pregame route helps Hurley “feel comfortable and relaxed,” according to the Huskies’ own head coach, while admitting he’s surprised by how much “attention” they’ve received.
