U2 legends Bono and The Edge returned to the red carpet to celebrate nearly half a century of music in a new documentary about the innovative Irish band.

The couple attended the Los Angeles venue, The Orpheum Theatre, which hosted the US premiere of the upcoming Disney+ documentary special Bono And The Edge: A Sort Of Homecoming.

Not present were the two remaining band members, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen, Jr., despite a number of celebrity guests converging on the venue ahead of the special event.

Lead singer Bono, real name Paul Hewson, and guitarist The Edge, birth name David Howell Evans, were instead joined by American talk show legend David Letterman, who narrates the new special.

Letterman traveled to the band’s native Dublin to interview the couple about their longstanding friendships and their 47-year journey as musicians.

The talk show host called the 22-time Grammy winners “nice, decent, well-rounded people” and said it was “a pleasure” to visit their hometown to see the film.

Letterman also admitted that he was stunned after finding out that Bono and The Edge had written a song for him while filming his Disney+ rock documentary.

The five-time Emmy winner, who turns 76 next month, said access to hollywood on Wednesday: ‘I’m still processing it, because most of the songs written about me start with ‘Hey dummy**!’ So this was an unusual experience.

U2 will next release Songs of Surrender, an album of 40 re-recorded and reinterpreted songs from the group’s back catalog, on March 17.

In the fall, the entire band, minus drummer Mullen, will perform a limited concert engagement in Las Vegas called U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at the Sphere in honor of the grand opening of MSG Sphere at The Venetian.

“We need to get back on stage and see our fans’ faces again,” band members Bono, The Edge and Adam Clayton said in a statement.

No other dates beyond Las Vegas were announced, though it’s unlikely a show would be built for just one city.

In 2017 and 2019, the band went on a world concert tour based on their 1987 “Joshua Tree” album.

Mullen is possibly the founder of the band; the four members met in his Dublin kitchen to answer an advertisement he had placed on a high school notice board looking for musicians.

U2 did not elaborate on his health problems, but a report in The Washington Post in November said the drummer had neck and elbow problems that required surgery.

Also in attendance at the premiere on Wednesday was Oscar-winning documentary filmmaker Morgan Neville, who directed A Sort of Homecoming.

Oscar-winning producer Brian Grazer, who executive produced A Sort of Homecoming, brought along his third wife, Reel Genius founder Veronica Smiley.
