Tyson Fury claimed he was ‘shit’ when he fought Francis Ngannou but warned Anthony Joshua it will be a ‘different game’ if the pair ever meet in a heavyweight clash.
Joshua scored a second-round knockout victory against former UFC heavyweight champion Ngannou in Saudi Arabia on Saturday night and called out Fury after his hand was raised.
Fury had previously beaten Ngannou but only after the Cameroonian pushed him the distance and knocked him down in the process against the boxing rookie and is now set for a heavyweight unification fight against Oleksandr Usyk.
Usyk previously beat Joshua twice to become world heavyweight champion and while Fury is confident of beating the Ukrainian, he also appears to have one eye on a clash with Joshua.
The Gypsy King explained that he put in a ‘shitty performance’ against Ngannou and warned Joshua that he won’t let his standards drop again if they fight in an all-British heavyweight showdown.
Tyson Fury has claimed it will be “a different game” if he finally fights Anthony Joshua
Joshua scored a brutal knockout victory against Francis Ngannou in Saudi Arabia on Saturday night.
Joshua lands a knockout right hand that sent Ngannou to the ground in the second round.
Commenting on Joshua’s victory, Fury told DAZN: “I’m sure Oleksandr Usyk will have something to say about it.”
“I had a shitty performance against Ngannou. AJ did absolutely fantastic and lit him up with a right hand.
Fury went on to explain that he needs to beat Usyk twice before fighting Joshua, adding: “If he fights me after I beat Usyk twice, then it will be a different game.”
The 35-year-old current heavyweight champion appeared confident when talking about a possible showdown against Joshua after his rival’s victory over Ngannou, but appeared shocked when he saw him knock out Ngannou.
Fury admitted he will beat Ukrainian champion Oleksandr Usyk ‘twice’ before fighting Joshua
Fury looked shocked ringside as he watched Joshua dispose of Ngannou in two rounds.
Joshua produced a sickening knockout with his right hand that dropped Ngannou for the third time in the fight and saw the referee immediately end the fight.
After the fight, Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn pleaded with Fury to beat Usyk in May and stage what he called “the biggest fight in the history of British boxing.”
He also called Joshua the “best heavyweight in the world” and insisted he will beat Fury.
Fury’s response to watching events unfold in the Middle East could indicate that he has realized Anthony Joshua’s return to the best shape he has possibly ever been in.
