Tyson Fury has claimed his fight with Oleksandr Usyk is “real boxing” in a snub against Anthony Joshua despite struggling to beat Francis Ngannou last October.

Fury was ringside in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Friday night to watch Joshua knock out the former UFC champion in two rounds.

Joshua’s impressive performance came just months after Fury had previously beaten Ngannou, but only after the Cameroonian pushed him the distance and knocked him down in the process against the boxing rookie.

However, the Gypsy King was quick to ignore Joshua’s victory and claim that “real boxing” will prevail in May when he faces Usyk for the undisputed heavyweight championship.

said through talkSPORT’s Michael Benson: ‘Oleksandr Usyk and I have a fight for the undisputed world heavyweight title coming up, and he just had a show fight, which is great for show, but for real boxing it’s Usyk and I who fight for the number one and undisputed position.’

In Friday’s fight, Joshua looked comfortable from the opening bell, and the two exchanged blows cautiously at first.

Ngannou had been successful in both stances against Fury in October, but was quickly punished for switching southpaw when Joshua floored him with a straight right.

The 37-year-old recovered to make it to the second round, but any attempt to return to action would be quickly quelled when AJ again sent him to the canvas.

This time it was clear that Ngannou was stunned and immediately after getting to his feet, Joshua landed a perfect right hand that dropped him.

Commenting on Joshua’s victory, Fury told DAZN: “I’m sure Oleksandr Usyk will have something to say about it.”

Joshua's victory came just months after Fury struggled against the same opponent.

“I had a shitty performance against Ngannou. AJ did absolutely fantastic and lit him up with a right hand.

Fury went on to explain that he needs to beat Usyk twice before fighting Joshua, adding: “If he fights me after I beat Usyk twice, then it will be a different game.”

Meanwhile, promoter Eddie Hearn Eddie Hearn begged Fury to beat Usyk to make the “biggest fight in the history of the sport.”
